Net Protections, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shin Shibata; "Net Protections"), is adding a electronic barcode billing function to its core service NP Atobarai, which has the leading market share in Japan for Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) services. It is the first time in Japan to offer an electronic barcode billing function that does not require downloading an application or user registration. The official release is September 1, 2022.

Background and Significance

 Convenience stores are now recognized by consumers as a payment location on par with banks and post offices, but due to the recent labor shortage and rising labor costs, convenience stores have aligned themselves to raise their collection fees this fall. This will be a significant cost increase for e-commerce and mail-order businesses that have adopted convenience store BNPL services.

 Net Protections, as the leading company in BNPL services, aims to provide payment services that can consistently adapt to social conditions and market needs. Adding the electronic barcode billing function in NP Atobarai is a new feature that will reduce the burden of increased costs and other expenses for e-commerce and mail-order businesses and improve buyer convenience.

About the Electronic Barcode Billing Function

 Customers will receive an email with an electronic barcode delivered to their smartphone or other devices instead of a paper invoice. Customers can simply show the electronic barcode at the convenience store checkout to make the payment.

 With this new function, e-commerce and mail-order businesses can save the invoice fee by approximately 25% (JPY 55) compared to paper invoices. Stores that will introduce NP Atobarai can choose between paper invoices and electronic barcodes. Member stores using NP Atobarai do not need any additional development or to pay any option fees.

<Benefits for businesses>
1.「Reduce costs」
Available at a lower cost than paper invoices, which can reduce costs.
2.「 Enhance utility」
Electronic barcodes improve usability and contribute to further improvement of CVR and LTV.
3.「Contribute to environmental conservation」
Paperless contributes to environmental conservation as set forth in the SDGs.

 <Benefits for buyers>
1.「Arrives quickly」
Electronic barcode arrives immediately via email after products arrive; no need to wait for an invoice by standard mail.
2.「Can pay anytime」
Pay at convenience stores anytime with a smartphone. Customers will be free from the hassle for carrying around invoices.
3.「Reduced risk of losing invoices」
Receiving the barcode required for payment via email reduces the risk of forgetting or late payments due to losing the invoice.

To use NP Atobarai’s electronic barcode billing function, the e-commerce and mail-order businesses need to obtain the customer’s email address.
