Net Protections, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Shin Shibata, “Net Protections”) is pleased to announce a new optional feature for its Buy Now Pay Later (BNPL) service, NP Atobarai, that allows customers to switch to credit card payments after placing an order*1.
This feature helps maximize customer LTV for businesses, particularly those operating subscription e-commerce, while delivering a seamless shopping experience for buyers.

*1 Available exclusively at the merchants that have enabled this feature.

Background

In e-commerce, particularly within subscription businesses, the reluctance to enter credit card information on the first purchase has been a contributing factor to cart abandonment. BNPL services have been widely adopted as a countermeasure to this issue.
However, there has been a growing demand for greater flexibility from both consumers and merchants. Buyers have expressed a desire to "pay by credit card after verifying the product in person" and to "set up automatic credit card payments for the second and subsequent subscription deliveries.” Meanwhile, e-commerce operators have been seeking ways to seamlessly transition users from BNPL to credit card payments in order to minimize delinquency risks and increase LTV.

To address these challenges, Net Protections developed a Credit Card Payment feature that allows NP Atobarai users to switch to credit card payment once they have placed an order and confirmed the product. Designed to integrate with a merchant's existing payment infrastructure with minimal disruption, the feature keeps operational demands low while supporting both a better purchasing experience and stronger revenue performance.

Features of the "Credit Card Payment" option

This feature allows NP Atobarai users to switch to credit card payments via their invoice or a notification email.

For consumers: easy switch after delivery
Buyers can change their payment method simply by registering their credit card information through the invoice or email received after their order arrives. For subscription purchases, switching just once ensures all future deliveries are automatically billed to the same card, eliminating the hassle of making manual payments.

For E-commerce merchants:boostingLTV while easing operational burden
Encouraging BNPL users to switch to credit cards boosts both retention and LTV. Pairing this switch with a discount offer can make the transition even more effective. Because the feature leverages the existing NP Atobarai infrastructure, merchants can adopt it smoothly, without the need for new card-acquiring agreements or large-scale development work.

Future Outlook

Net Protections will continue to expand the functionality of NP Atobarai and its other payment services in step with the evolving growth challenges faced by e-commerce merchants. Net Protections remains committed to delivering greater value on both sides, providing consumers with a safer, more convenient purchasing experience, and providing merchants with a payment infrastructure that drives sales growth and operational efficiency.
